Vidor Fesztivál Nyíregyháza 2008
August 29 - September 6
2008 marks the seventh Happy Art (Vidor) Festival in Nyíregyháza. The event has grown into one of the largest art festivals of Hungary, presenting some
400 events at 70 locations, within a mere 9 days.
This year’s "Vidor fest",
Europe’s largest free festival of world music introduces an outstanding musical program, with the participation of such icons as the guitar hero
Al Di Meola and the legendary
Habib Koité from Africa, who fuses different traditions of the uniquely rich musical culture of Mali; the traveling ambassadors of Russian music, the
Terem Quartet; one of the most well-known and most liked ska band around the world, the London based Ska Cubano; and a new star,
Ana Moura from Portugal. Fifteen countries from three continents will be represented by the 150 musicians performing at the Vidor fest. Many of the invited artists will come to Hungary for the very first time, exclusively for this concert.
The festival features a prestigious
film competition, and the most renowned theater companies of the country present last year’s best new comedies. A jury of six members will give out ten awards for the best performance, the best directing, the best actor and the best actress, for the best episode actor and the best episode actress, for the best set design, for the best costume design, for the best street performance, and for the best film comedy.
During the festival, Nyíregyháza’s Main Square will become the country’s largest movie theater, where an expected 3-4 thousand strong audience will have the opportunity to watch
the crème de la crème of last year’s new movie comedies.
Puppet shows and art exhibits round out the event, where visitors can see creations of
Pablo Picasso and
Marc Chagall, along with artwork of
József Szurcsik.
