The symbol of the city, the present-day Great Calvinist Church was built based on plans developed by József Thaler between 1805 and 1823.

As early as the 14th century, a church building stood on this spot. All the internal decorations, the Sacrament table and even the benches were donated by local members and craftsmen, while the organ of the building was built by Jakob Deutsmann in 1838.

The building was almost totally consumed in a fire during World War II, but it was reconstructed later, in several steps, and a modern, new organ was also built in it. Today it provides an excellent venue for organ concerts and philharmonics.

Exhibitions are also held in the gallery above the dome, which can accommodate 120 visitors.
